Model UN

In March 2010, Falu Frigymnasium will arrange ”Model United Nations” in Falun, with 150-200 delegates participating. Many of our own students will take part as delegates, and we hope that invited students from Swedish, European and African schools, that we cooperate with, also will take part.

The organisation will consist of the General Assembly and three committees. English will be used as the working language. See invitation for more details.

If you have questions now call or mail Åsa Gårdbro at asa.gardbro@falufri.se.

Preparations

You should decide upon an identity for the model UN, appropriate for the country that you represent. Your identity can be for example “Ms Nambai Marazanye from Tanzania”. This identity will be your role during the entire model UN. We ask you to send the names you have decided in your delegation, by the latest Friday the 12th of February. Send all identities in your delegation in one e-mail to  maria.pettersson@falufri.se

You also need to prepare a suitable dress for the model UN. During the model UN respectful manners are required. More information about this you will find in the guidebook.

Things to study

  • General information about the nation you represent (policy/constitution, history, religion etc)
  • Your nation’s foreign policy; international relations and cooperation within organisations.
  • Your nation’s opinions in the issues that are dealt with during the model UN.

Texts to write

  • One resolution concerning your issue in your committee. The resolution must be sent to Falu Frigymnasium by the latest on Friday the 12th of March to maria.pettersson@falufri.se
  • Position papers (your nation’s opinions) on all the issues in the model UN.
  • Your opening speech (maximum 1 minute).
  • Information on how to write resolutions and opening speeches you will find in the guidebook.

All the texts are to be written in English. We would like to advice you to start writing well in advance since it takes quite a lot of time to find all the information you will need!
